Lahti
Lahti is located in Southern Finland, 100 km from Helsinki.
Population of the municipality is less than 100 000 inhabitants. It is the seventh largest city of Finland.
Area is 154.6 km², 135.06-land, and 19.54-water.
Lahti was first mentioned in documents in 1445. Lahti was a typical local main-street village, until the railway between Riihimäki and St.Petersburg was opened in 1870, the village became more lively.
Lahti was officially recognized as a market town in 1878 by Alexander II and received its town charter in November 1905 from Nicholas II.
After World War II the city started to develop.
Nowadays Lahti is known as a sports city. There are internationally recognized sports centre in Lahti.
