Ruka

The Ruka ski resort is located 25 kilometers from Kuusamo.

Along with downhill skiing, you can go snowmobiling, as well as other winter sports.

Ruka is 491 meters above sea level. The highest vertical drop is 201 meters.
By 1940 people were skiing in the forests of Ruka, but in December 1954, the first slope was created. The first lift from 310 meters was created in 1957.

Nowadays there are 29 slopes (40 % blue, 30 % red and 20 % black). The longest slope is 1300 meters. There are 19 lifts (16 of which are floodlit). For those who like snowboarding, there is also a terrain park. The season begins from October and ends in May, due to modern equipment, like snow guns.

The west hills are designated for ski experts, and east one is for beginners.

There are various international competitions. The quantity and quality of cottages and hotels attract tourists from all over. After a long day of skiing, people can rest and have a good time in restaurants and bars, which are in the center of Ruka. There are also tennis courts, badminton, basketball, a big field for mini-golf, billiard tables, gyms, solariums, massage, finnish sauna and Jacuzzi.
