Tampere

 

Tampere is located in southern Finland, 182 kilometers from Helsinki, and is the third largest city in Finland.Population: 208 000 inhabitants.
Area: 687.98 km².Tampere is located between two lakes; the two lakes differ in level by 18 meters.Tampere was founded by Gustavus III in 1779, on the banks of the river. Town-dwellers received the right to trade abroad and bring imports without any customs limits. At the beginning there were only 300 inhabitants, and the number of people has been growing very slowly. A railway station was built in 1870, and in the beginning of 20th century it became the most important industry item in Finland. The number of people living there started to grow quickly and in 1910 it reached 44 000 people.Small towns were built for workers around the city. Events which happened in Russia in 1905 stopped industry development in the city, and after the revolution in 1917, trade relations were stopped with Russia at completely. After World War I the city´s positions were based on industry, during World War II the city was the centre of military industry.
There was a crisis in Tampere in 1990, many factories stopped working, and modern Tampere was popular in the sphere of tech info.
