Kajaani

Kajaani is located in central Finland and is in the province of Oulu.
Kajaani was founded in 1651, and is one of the oldest cities in northern Finland.
Population: 38 000 inhabitants.
Area: 2264.08 km², 427.76 - water.

The city was founded by Peter Brahe on March 6, 1651. Only 400 people lived in Kajaani at the time. The building of the Kajaani fortress was started in 1595 and was finished in 1604. Peter Brahe ordered to renovate it in 1650 and was finished in 1666. In 1716 the fortress was blown up, and people were using the remaining stones to rebuild their houses, until the government took the ruines of the fortress under protection.

Fishing and hunting have been popular in Kajaani for a long time.
